Standard Banner Ad Sizes

Banner ad sizes are set by the Internet Advertising Bureau (IAB) and the publishers of large and popular websites such as MSN and Yahoo. Members of  the IAB’s Ad Sizes Working Group meet on a bi-annual basis to review proposed new ad measurements based on usage volume on the internet. Although there are many different advertisements on the web, there is a standardised set of the most commonly used sizes.  Using standard banner ad proprotions means that your advert can be used on a wider range of websites, i.e. it has ‘portability’. The most common ad size in use on the web today are 468 pixel by 60 pixels (full banners).

The diagram below shows examples of standard web advert sizes from the IAB recommendations published in November 2009.
